Warwick Farm trainer Bjorn Baker is in the rare position of having two of his runners at Kensington on Saturday aiming to make it a hat-trick of wins.
The pair are Harpo Marx and Edison, and they are part of Baker’s quintet of starters at Randwick Kensington.
Baker gets the ball rolling with his five-year-old Harpo Marx for Darby Racing in the Heineken Handicap over 2400m and is aiming for three wins on the bounce following
dominant wins at Wyong and Warwick Farm.
The Galileo gelding stays at the 2400m, and with Rachel King on board again, Baker is
confident of another strong showing.
“He’s fit and can go on a wet track,” Baker said.
“He’s a big strong boy and he’s come through that last win really well.
“I think with Rachel back on, and he’s drawn what is probably going to be a good gate for
him. He tends to get back and run on so he certainly won’t be out of it,” he said.
Edison is another Baker hopeful looking to post three wins in a row in the Maroubra Handicap over 1500m.
The Fastnet Rock gelding has been a model of consistency of late with four wins and two
seconds from his past six outings and Baker sees this race as a good lead in before heading
towards the Magic Millions next month.
“He’s going really well, his last win was excellent,” Baker said.
“He’s just a big strong relaxed customer and he’s holding his condition brilliantly.
“Hopefully, he’ll run well and then we’ll ship him up to the Gold Coast and more than likely
run in the 1400m race up there,” he said.
Baker also has Soldier Of Love engaged in the same event, and despite a flat run last time
out he believes he is still a live chance.
“He was a bit disappointing last time but has had a bit of a break between runs,” Baker said.
“He goes on a wet track and gets in with no weight.
“His first two runs were good and he definitely has a sneaky chance.”
Baker closes out the nine-race card with his ulta-consistent Rubick mare Turnstyle.
The four-year-old has only finished out of the top four placings twice in 10 starts and has
drawn well for hoop Jay Ford in gate two.
“She’s been going really well and gets in with a pretty good weight,” Baker said.
“She can handle a wet track for sure so that’s in her favour.”
The Randwick Kensington surface is currently rated a Heavy 8 with more rain forecast on
Friday and Saturday.
